2013

Innovation of Artificial Intelligence Courses

Technical area and project number:
B1 a – 63/2013
Team of grantees:
Ing. Petr Doležel, Ph.D.
Ing. Pavel Škrabánek, Ph.D.

Annotation:

The Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Informatics educates professionals in the fields of information technology, electrical engineering and process control. In all these areas Artificial Intelligence is widely used. Our students gain knowledge in this area in two basic subjects: Introduction to Artificial Intelligence 1 and follow-up course Introduction to Artificial Intelligence 2.
The weakness of the lessons of the topics is complexity of explanation of some concepts using traditional practices. There is an area where information technology could be used, which requires a redesign of the existing lessons materials into digital form and the addition of multimedia elements that facilitate understanding of subject matter. Along with this, however, it will be necessary to carry out changes in the structure of lectures. Improvement of the quality of lessons will be achieved also by complement of subject matter with practical examples of its applications as well as inclusion of latest findings in the newly written materials. Part of the lessons is also exercise in which students apply the discussed theory on the assigned problems. Even in this area there is a room for improvement of lessons quality, therefore it is not overlooked in the project. The last area that offers a space for improvement of lessons quality is a library fund which currently does not have sufficient amount of relevant technical literature available for students of these subjects.

Final Report:

The FRVS project 63/2013 “Innovation of Artificial Intelligence Courses” has been solved on the Department of Process Control in the year 2013.  The grant allowed buying the necessary technical literature. A part of it was used by the lecture innovation; second on enlarged the university library fund and is now freely available to students.

Creation of the new course Laboratory Exercises from the field focusing on practical lessons of automation

Technical area and project number:
F1 b – 313/2012
Grantee: Ing. Libor Kupka, Ph.D.

Annotation:

The aim of the project is particularly the creation of technical and pedagogical background for laboratory lessons at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Informatics (FEI) at the University of Pardubice in the course Laboratory exercises I, which will be taught within the framework of newly accredited branch of study Process Control in the follow-up Master’s study programme Information Technology. Implementation of the project will significantly expand the possibilities of lessons in the field of industrial controllers. There will be an appropriate technical background – especially equipment of the new laboratory at the Department with three compact process controllers and three multifunctional industrial controllers including necessary accessories and specialized design and simulation software. Within the framework of the course students will thus be able to use modern equipment, which they may later encounter in practice, but which is completely missing in lessons for the time being. Students will be able to simulate procedures applied in practice within the framework of their studies; carry out experimental work based on the current theoretical knowledge and will thus be better prepared for their future carrier.

Innovation in lessons of technical means of automation

Technical area and project number:
F1 a – 878/2012
Team of grantees:
Ing. Libor Havlíček, Ph.D.
Ing. Daniel Honc, Ph.D.

Annotation:

The lessons in the area of usage of modern technology means requires appropriate innovation of technical equipment. This project will help planning appropriate innovation of laboratory technical equipment with cutting edge technology. In the first phase, three pieces of laboratory system of analogue PID regulator will be bought, which will be immediately incorporated into lessons. In order to fully utilize the analogue PID controllers, two modules of direct current motor with speed voltage generator and incremental encoder of the turning of the motor shaft will be bought. In the second phase, the task for measurement of ultrasonic transmitter and receiver properties and measurement of shocks will be purchased. This task is suitable for demonstration the principle of ultrasonic rangefinder design and measurement of ultrasonic sensors properties and for measurement of modern accelerometers properties. Further, additional expendable supplies will be purchased for consumption during lessons and work on students’semester projects. Subsequently, study materials will be prepared for teaching relevant subjects.

2011

Innovation of automatic control and measurement of non-electrical quantities

Technical area and project number:
F1 a – 1746/2011
Team of grantees:
Ing. Libor Havlíček, Ph.D.
Ing. Daniel Honc, Ph.D.

Annotation:

The aim of the project is an application of new means for lessons subjects focused on modern technical equipment in the area of regulation and control and in sensor technology for measurement of non-electrical quantities. Innovation involves the upgrade of existing and creation of new laboratory exercises for two study branches of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Informatics (FEI) at the University of Pardubice – Process Control (ŘP, number 3902R046) and Communication and Microprocessor Technology (KMT, number 2612R060). The project aims to extend the lessons of courses of above mentioned study branches with new topics, primarily in the area of introduction of new technologies and processes in identification, mathematical modelling and modern control algorithms. The lessons in the area of regulation and control require appropriate innovation in technical equipment. Solution of the project lies in equipment of the laboratory with new exercise for cooperative control, purchase of robotic vehicles of cooperative control, LabVIEW software and expendable supplies. Furthermore, study materials for lessons in concerned courses will be created and upgraded.
